Step 3: Exercise 1
The right way
Exercise: Put your hand on the mouse, wait until it vibrates and then put your hand on your desk in front of you. Repeat this 5 times (see image below). By 'practicing' this response it will soon become automatic and you will do so without having to think about it.
The wrong way
Now let's look at the 'wrong' way: Wait for the mouse to vibrate and then tilt your hand back at a sharp angle without removing it (see image below). The mouse may still detect the presence of your hand and keep vibrating.
Did you notice how uncomfortable this is? It takes a considerable amount of muscle tension to maintain this position. This is definitely an undesirable response to the vibration. So please take you hand away completely. By regularly 'practising' the right response it will soon be automatic and you will not have to think about it.
What if you were just about to use the mouse?
Put your hand back on the mouse (without clicking or scrolling) and wait for it to vibrate. Now click a mouse button or scroll the wheel. The vibration stops allowing you to continue your work uninterrupted.
What happens if you move the mouse without clicking or scrolling?
Grab the mouse and move the cursor around the screen, without clicking or scrolling. This will delay the vibration to a maximum of 18 seconds.
